Fertility

Why a Holistic Therapy can help with relaxation

If you are ready to start a family, not being able to conceive can have a huge impact on your life, wellbeing and relationship. Often couples spend many years trying to avoid conceiving and when the time finally is right for them, it comes as a big shock when falling pregnant is not as easy as they had hoped for. This definitely was the case for us when we decided to add the pitter-patter of little feet to our lives in 1997. With no obvious physical explanation for why we couldn’t conceive and a reluctance to have too much invasive medical exploration, we decided to try to change our fortune by carefully looking at stress levels and lifestyle choices before heading down any other route. This is not an easy feat, when the issue at hand lends itself to causing high stress levels on all sides. Apart from improving our general health more consciously through diet and gentle fitness, we as well looked at Holistic Therapies, to help with relaxation - and hence a possible reduction in stress levels - to find our Equilibrium. As I repeatedly came across Reflexology as a therapy of choice, I went to receive a session and consequently decided to enrol on a part-time course to become a practitioner. I was blown away by the impact the reflexology sessions I received, and gave to my husband had on us.

May it be as it is, as far as I am aware, not enough clinical trials have been conducted to claim that receiving reflexology improves anyones chance to conceive but I am convinced that the whole process of exploring and addressing our life style, in combination with the reflexology sessions and their relaxing and balancing effects, helped us to relax, relieve tension and be in a much better place - so either way, it was a win - win situation.

There are no guarantees when addressing fertility issues, whichever conventional treatment and accompanying complementary therapy you might choose. However, trying to relax and helping your body, mind and emotions to be more balanced, can only be a good thing, especially when it is done in a non-invasive and holistic way. The wonderful thing is, that Reflexology sessions can be received alongside and in support of any other conventional treatment you might choose to have. Why not give it a try and see if finding your Equilibrium  can help you to cope better with what life throws your way.

Treatments at Equilibrium - Holistic Treatments for Women + Babies  are only open to women.  However, if reflexology treatments concerning fertility are booked, treatments for male partners might be beneficial and hence considered.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet, hands, face and ears correspond with different areas of the body, when stimulated through pressure.

It is a gentle treatment, which can generally be received by anyone* at any age.

Reflexology sessions can be a wonderfully relaxing experience, where you can take time out from everyday pressures. As such it could be one of the many different ways you might want to try to help with relaxation, which can in return, be helpful in releasing stress.

As widely acknowledged, long term stress can be related to experiencing many physical, mental and emotional symptoms, including feeling exhausted/burnt out, having stress headaches, stress rashes/hives, an increased heart beat, muscle aches, stomach problems, sleep problems or generally just feeling anxious or overwhelmed. **

Therefore, as a form of relaxation, having a Reflexology session might be helpful in dealing with stress levels, with improving your mood, aiding sleep, calming your mind, body and emotions and, hence can help with improving your overall sense of health and well-being.

Reflexology sessions can be beneficial for anyone of any age*, it can be extremely beneficial as you get older and can be very relaxing and hence supportive before, during and after pregnancy*. If you wish to combine a reflexology with a massage, I can tailor make a treatment plan to include both therapies.

*In rare cases the consultation conducted before a treatment will indicate that treatments cannot be conducted safely. If you suffer from specific health conditions, please feel free to enquire before booking a treatment and/or consult you GP/medical team.

**For a deeper understanding of long-term/severe stress and related symptoms and ways to combat it, consult NHS advice online or contact your GP to seek professional medical advice. Complementary therapies are not a substitute for professional medical advice.
