Fertility

Why Holistic Treatments can help with fertility

If you are ready to start a family, not being able to conceive can have a huge impact on your life, wellbeing and relationship. Often couples spend many years trying to avoid conceiving and when the time finally is right for them, it comes as a big shock when falling pregnant is not as easy as they had hoped for. This definitely was the case for us when we decided to add the pitter-patter of little feet to our lives in 1997. With no obvious physical explanation for why we couldn’t conceive and a reluctance to have too much invasive medical exploration, we decided to try to change our fortune by carefully looking at stress levels and lifestyle choices before heading down any other route. This is not an easy feat, when the issue at hand lends itself to causing high stress levels on all sides. Apart from improving our general health more consciously through diet and gentle fitness, we as well looked at Holistic Treatments, to help with stress levels, the general stimulation and balance of hormone levels and all aspects of our Equilibrium. As I repeatedly came across Reflexology as a treatment of choice, I went to receive a treatment and consequently decided to enrol on a part-time course to become a practitioner. I was blown away by the impact the treatments I received and gave to my husband during the course had on us. I graduated in May 2000 and our two children were born in 2002 and 2005.

May it be as it is, I can not prove that receiving the treatments were the key to conceiving but I am convinced that the whole process of exploring and addressing our life style, in combination with the treatments and their relaxing and balancing effects, got us the wonderful outcome we wanted. I was equally delighted that my first client after graduating, who had suffered several failed attempts of IVF treatments, fell pregnant while receiving Reflexology treatments by me. Our sons, born only months apart, grew up as best friends.

There are no guarantees when addressing fertility issues, whichever treatment you choose. However, trying to relax and helping your body, mind and emotions to be more balanced, can only be a good thing, especially when it is done in a non-invasive and holistic way. The wonderful thing is, that Reflexology treatments can usually be received alongside and in support of any other conventional treatment you might choose to have. Why not give it a try and see if finding your Equilibrium  can help?

Treatments at Equilibrium - Holistic Treatments for Women + Babies  are only open to women.  However, if reflexology treatments concerning fertility are booked, treatments for male partners might be considered and beneficial.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet, hands, face and ears correspond with different areas of the body, when stimulated through pressure.

It is a gentle treatment, which can generally be received by anyone* at any age.

Reflexology can offer relief from a wide range of health issues including respiratory conditions, migraine and sinus problems (including hay-fever), back and skeletal problems, arthritis/joint pain, stress related and skin conditions, depression and/or anxiety, chronic fatigue, hormonal imbalances, maternity related and fertility issues, PMS, menopause, digestive disorders and help with eliminating waste products and toxins, strengthening the immune system, improving nerve function and circulation and many other heath conditions.

As well as targeting many specific health conditions, Reflexology can help with general aches and pains, improving your mood, aiding sleep, reducing hyperactivity, relieving nervous tension, calming your mind, body and emotions, relaxation and improving your overall sense of health and well-being.

Reflexology massage can be beneficial for anyone of any age, it is extremely beneficial as you get older and can be very relaxing and supportive during pregnancy. If you wish to combine a reflexology with a massage, we can tailor make a treatment plan to include both therapies.

*In rare cases the consultation conducted before a treatment will indicate that treatments cannot be conducted safely. If you suffer from specific health conditions, please feel free to enquire before booking a treatment.

What to expect

As a new client you will be send a questionnaire to fill in and return before the first treatment. In addition, approximately 15 minutes will be added to your initial treatment slot to complete the consultation. On each consecutive treatment a short check-up consultation will be included.

To receive a Reflexology treatment the client is in a sitting position with their feet raised and only the calves and feet need to be exposed. The treatment is conducted by relaxing the feet and by applying pressure to specific pressure points in the feet**. Although, depending on the client’s needs, some areas will receive more intensive attention, all areas of the feet will be treated during a session to support the body’s natural ability to heal itself holistically. Some areas might feel tender but generally, the experience is a gentle and relaxing one.

For information on possible 'after effects' and general 'aftercare advice' please read the corresponding section on this website (see More -- Aftercare and Aftercare Advice). You might be given some individualised aftercare advice and self-help tips at the end of the treatment. While a single treatment can have a wonderfully relaxing effect, several consecutive treatments might be recommended to try to achieve a longer lasting and deeper result.

During your treatment your feet will be gently cleansed before the massage begins. Pressure is then applied to specific reflex points, paying particular attention to areas of concern, while taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your well-being.

The sensitivity of the feet varies from person to person and treatment to treatment. Please discuss any questions you might have with me. At the end of your session you will get a few minutes to rest and receive home-care advice, if required. Drinking several glasses of water spread out during the day is recommended after a treatment to aid the body in eliminating toxins, which were released during the Reflexology treatment.

**In case where (parts of) the feet can not be treated, pressure can be applied to the corresponding reflex points in the hands.

How will I feel after a  treatment?

Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation; however, sometimes people report feeling lethargic, nauseous or emotional but this is usually transitory and is considered part of the healing process.

Should you ever have concerns about how you feel after a treatment, please reach out to me. Should this not be possible, or in severe cases, please consult your GP.
